Punjab, this land of the brave Sikhs echoes with the melodious Gurbani of the sacred Guru Granth Sahib from the Gurudwars spread all over Punjab. It is a land or martial traditions raising to combat all aggression from the North-West and all other who dared to challenge the integrity and sovereignty of this golden land. Punjab’s heritage is too robust to be either forgotten or lost. A land of tough, gold-fearing peasants living in its rich traditions of hard-work and toil, song and dance and patriotism, is today one of the most vibrant states of India.
Day 1: Arrival Delhi
Meet on arrival and transfer to hotel.
Day 2: Delhi
City Sightseeing visit to Gurdwaras Sisganj, Bangla Sahib and Rakab Ganj. Gurdwaras Sisganj, Bangla Sahib and Rakab Ganj. Overnight at hotel.
Day 3:Delhi - Chandigarh - Parivar Vichhorra - Anandpur Sahib - Chandigarh
breakfast, depart for Chandigarh by car/coach (242kms/5.5 hrs). Check-in at hotel. Afternoon visit Parivar Vichhorra (52kms/2hrs) and drive onto Anandpur Sahib (30kms/1hr)-fortress temple situated on the left banks of the River Satluj founded by the ninth Sikh guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur. It was here that the Sikh religion acquired its final military character. Return to Chandigarh. Overnight stay.
Day 4: Chandigarh -Amritsar (258 kms / 6½hrs)
After breakfast, sight-seeing tour of Chandigarh, visiting the Museum, High Court, Assembly Chamber and Rock Garden. depart by car/coach for Amritsar, situated on the north-western border of the country. The 400 years old city, founded by the fourth guru of the Sikhs. Guru Ramdas, has been the seat of Sikh religion and culture from its very inception. It is renowned for the famous Golden Temple. Amritsar, literally ‘Pool of Nectar’, derives its name from the holy pond around the temple. The land for the pool was gifted by the Moghul Emperor Akbar. Check-in at hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 5: Amritsar – Tarntaran – Gobindwal - Hazoor Sahib-Sultanpur Lodhi - Amritsar
After breakfast, drive to Tarn Taran (22kms/ ¾ hour), famous for a gurdwara standing the side of a large tank and build in honour of Guru Arjun Dev. Proceed to Gibindwal (22kms/½ hr), a short run from Taran, connected to the memory of Guru Amardas who lived there. A gurdwara build by the Guruji still stands there. Since no space was available for a tank, an underground “Baoli’ was constructed near the gurdwara with a height of 84 steps leading to it. Continue to Hazoor Sahib (10kms/¼hr), where the Samadhi (memorial) of the second guru Sikh guru, Guru Angad Dev Ji was build by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1815. Drive to Sultanpur Lodhi (15kms) visiting the holy Gurdwara of Ber Sahib, where Guru Baba Nanakji spent first 14 years of his life. Return to Amritsar and, visit the Golden Temple. Built in the midst of the holy pool by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1803. It is also known as Darbar Sahib or Har Mandir Sahib. Overnight at hotel
Day 6: Amritsar- Jalianwala Bagh – Wagha Border – Amritsar
After breakfast proceed to visit Golden Temple in Amritsar.
Golden Temple, considered as one of the most hallowed sites of Sikh religion. Example of both Hindu and Muslim styles of architecture, it flaunts a huge dome made of pure gold. Its architectural genius attracts the interest of one and all around the globe.
Jalianwalan Bagh - In 1919, the British Police fired randomly on a peaceful assembly of people gathered in demand of freedom, which killed hundreds of men, women and children on the spot. The bullet marks on the boundary walls bring alive the agonizing tale of cruelty of colonial rule.
Back to hotel. Relax for a while.
Afternoon depart from hotel to visit Wagha Border - the India-Pakistan border, Wagha is just 28 km from the main town of Amritsar. The change of guard’s ceremony at sunset draws a good many spectators. From Parking Area ( you will have to walk around 1 km) and follow security norms. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 7: Amritsar - Delhi
Morning return to Delhi by Shatabdi express train, breakfast on board. Check-in at hotel. Overnight at hotel
Day 8: Delhi – Departure
After breakfast, half-day city sight-seeing tour, drive past Red Fort-the symbol of Moghul power and elegance built in red sand-stone by the fifth Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan when he shifted his capital to Shahjahananbad from Agra in 1638; India Gate-the country’s memorial to the unknown soldier; and Qutab Minar-build in red sandstone in Islamic style, the tower is 71m tall with its walls consisting of intricately carved quotations from the Quran. Transfer to the airport to catch flight for onward destination.
